Mr. Whitton’s Weekly Update April 13-17, 2026
Friendly Reminders & Updates
- Seven Sacred Teachings – The teaching for April is Wolf - Humility
- Grades 4-6 Chess Club - Our Grades 4 and Grades 5-6 chess club was a hit! We had a large number of students interested. Grade 4 chess club will be on Tuesdays and Grades 5/6 will be on Thursdays in the learning commons for the next several weeks! Thank you teachers for volunteering your time!
- Lockdown Practice Drill Monday April 13 PM - Please see the separate SchoolMessenger email about our lockdown practice on this date.
- Parental Notification and Opt-in Consent for Human Sexuality | Physical Education and Wellness Grades 3-6: In accordance with Section 58.11 of the Education Act, Alberta schools must now obtain written consent of parents prior to providing instructions or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality, gender identity or sexual orientation. Students are unable to participate in this portion of the curriculum unless consent is explicitly granted. Please look for paper forms coming home next week. Teachers will also provide 30 days notice prior to beginning instruction of these learning outcomes through their Weekly Update messages.
- Rear Parking Lot - We have had many safety concerns about our rear parking lot. This lot is for staff use only. Please do not pick up and drop off in our staff lot. To support safety, we will be locking the parking lot chain at arrival and drop-off times. Please be sure to park safely on the street. We have had Bylaw officers attending our school to ensure safety, and you may be ticketed. Some reminders:
- Do not block crosswalks, parking lot entry, and bus zone.
- Only park on the right hand side of the street.
- Remember that the speed limit is 30 km/h.
- Did you know it is against bylaw to let your child out of the vehicle on the street side?
- Use marked crosswalks to cross. Remember that a school bus can not see directly in front of them, so jaywalking is very dangerous.
- Please be kind and courteous to one another - we expect all community members to follow the Three Pillars of Care: Care for Yourself, Care for Others, and Care for this Place.
- School Council
- Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 6:00pm. We are in urgent need of parent volunteer support for our Spring Casino which brings us over $70,000. We are at risk of losing our Casino. Please email Mr. Whitton at kmwhitton@cbe.ab.ca if you can help as part of the committee or volunteer!
