Mr. Whitton’s Weekly Update Jan 19-23, 2026
Friendly Reminders & Updates
- Seven Sacred Teachings – The teaching for January is Bear - Courage
- School Council – Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20 at 6:00pm. We are in urgent need of parent volunteer support for our Spring Casino which brings us over $70,000. We are at risk of losing our Casino. Please email Mr. Whitton at kmwhitton@cbe.ab.ca if you can help as part of the committee or volunteer!
- Field Trips - Our Grade 6 classes had a wonderful trip to the Calgary Police YouthLink "safe for life" program. Did you know our School Council supports field trips by providing one free bus ride for each classroom/teacher? Thanks, council!
- K-3 Provincial Literacy and Math Screening Assessments - Starting next week, our K-3 students will complete mandatory screening asessments to track progress. This is the second round of assessments for Grade 1-3 students, so we are excited to see our progress following targeted interventions. This is the first assessment screener of the year for our kindergarten students
- PE, Grade 4, Grade 1 Student Support Updates - Our Grade 1 and Grade 4 classes have had the largest class sizes this year, so we are pleased that we have been able to allocate some additional support to these classrooms. We are excited to welcome Ms. Alpana to our Grade 4 team. This will create an overall reduction in our Grade 4 classrooms because there will now be an extra teacher in Grade 4 for much of the day. To support our Grade 1 students, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Murtagh, has been working in Grade 1 for two hours per day. This is lowering our Grade 1 class sizes, and providing additional classroom/resource support. There will be no changes to class/homeroom lists in any grades. Please continue to communicate with the same classroom teacher as you usually do. Lastly, Ms. Tat will be leading our PE program in Grades K-3 Phys-Ed and Wellness for part of the mornings. This will bring consistency to our PE program.
