Friendly Reminders & Updates
- Seven Sacred Teachings – The teaching for March is Beaver - Wisdom.
- Indigenous Knowledge-Keeper Shirley Hill 3-day Residency - We were so fortunate this week that Shirley Hill was able to return to Cecil Swanson School! Shirley spent three days with our Grades 4-6 students sharing her knowledge of Blackfoot Language, Culture, and Hoop Dancing! Students had so many questions about her teachings, and she shared information about the smudge, animals, calendar/seasons, and reconciliation. Her little friend, "Lemon Bear" was hilarious as well. Thank you to our parent casino society/school council for funding this experience. We hope to see Shirley again next year. We are also looking forward to connecting with other knowledge keepers that can work with our Grades K-3 students, since Shirley was only available for a couple of days this year.
- SoundKreations - Our 2-week hip hop residency is in full swing! All of our students from K-6 are participating and learning a hip hop dance routine! We are looking ahead to our second week next week.
- School Council
- Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00pm. We are in urgent need of parent volunteer support for our Spring Casino which brings us over $70,000. We are at risk of losing our Casino. Please email Mr. Whitton at kmwhitton@cbe.ab.ca if you can help as part of the committee or volunteer!
- This is also our school planning and engagement opportunity where we share information about school planning, including our school development plan and more.
- Substitute Appreciation Week - March 9-13 is Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week! Huge thanks to these important people who keep our classrooms running when the day-to-day staff is not feeling well. You are appreciated at Cecil Swanson!
