Mr. Whitton’s Weekly Update September 9-13, 2024
Student Voice Club Updates
- We will be starting a Student Voice Club, with our first meeting on September 18. Each classroom will send a representative(s) from their class to communicate with the Student Voice Club. This may be the same student each month, or may be a shared role, depending on the classroom. Student voice club will be choosing one of the Seven Sacred Teachings as an area of focus for our school each month. This will be part of our focus on Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Truth and Reconciliation. The Seven Sacred teachings are: love, respect, courage (bravery), honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth.
 - Spirit Days - Student voice club will be choosing a monthly spirit day to build community! Check the calendar and your child’s classroom Weekly Update. You’ll receive a SchoolMessenger update with the September Spirit Day after our Student Voice first meeting.

Friendly Reminders & Updates
- Staffing Updates – We have welcomed many wonderful new staff members this year! Our student numbers are slightly up already since August, so we may add additional staff members in the near future if our numbers stay up through September 30. This is the date that our student count is ‘locked in’ for budget purposes. You can see our updated staff deployment and email contact list on the Our Staff page on our website.
 - Phys – Ed and Music Specialists – All of our students study Music and Physical-Education. This year, we have expanded our Phys-Ed specialist role to a full time position so that all students from K-6 will receive Phys-Ed instruction with the specialist several times per week. On days when they do not see the PE specialist, classroom teachers provide daily physical activity instruction indoors or outdoors, depending on weather. We are maintaining our Music Specialist role for Grades 3-6. Grades K-2 will receive Music instruction from their classroom teachers.
 - Did you know we have a Student Friendly Code of conduct? Teachers share these expectations frequently, and we appreciate your support at home! The full Student Code of Conduct is available on the CBE Website. Respect and Personal Space are a key focus in September.
