“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” Gail Devers
We can only imagine how busy you all are at this time of the year. We have the unique opportunity to work with your great children for a little less than seven hours a day. Thank you for working with them on being respectful, willing to learn new and exciting things, and willing to become strong independent thinkers. Together we will continue to work with your children to strive for excellence.
We would also like to take this opportunity to show our thanks to the School Council who has made valuable contributions to our common goal of student success. The School Council is happy to announce that they will be putting on our first fun lunch of the school year. School Council will be offering a cheese pizza fun lunch on December 22nd (the last day of school before winter break), to all our wonderful Cecil Swanson Students and there will be no charge to students for this cheese pizza lunch. Look for more information in the weekly email from the teachers.
Once again our parent-teacher conferences that were held last Thursday and Friday were a huge success. Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who connected with their student’s teacher.
We hope you will enjoy this holiday season with your family. We will be looking forward to all of their smiling faces on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Respectfully,
Adam Topp, Principal
Joan Murtagh, Assistant Principal
Personal Calls
We have had a number of parents phoning in to request messages be passed on to their children or asking that they phone home. It is sometimes very difficult to pass along messages as students are not always in the classroom. We would encourage you to make your arrangements with your children prior to school and limit phone calls to emergencies only. If you must call your child please call before 2:15 p.m., this gives us time to pass on the message.
Cold Weather Safety
In extremely cold weather (wind chill or temperatures on or around -20 C), we have BLUE DOT DAYS. On these days, we put a blue dot on the doors of the school. This means that all students should come into the school at 7:55 am through one of the main doors, when supervision starts.
It is essential that all students come to school warmly dressed with a hat or hood, mitts and boots with them every day during the winter. Children need to be prepared in case an emergency should arise. Even with a Chinook, the weather can change suddenly.
Traffic Safety
Please take note of the street signs in front of the school when you drop off students. DO NOT STOP OR PARK IN THE BUS ZONE. There are signs designating loading zones and the crosswalks in the front and back of the school. We remind parents and students to use the crosswalks at all times. U-turns in the middle of the street are illegal. Please model safe crossing by using the crosswalks to cross the street. With the snowy weather upon us, please practice safe driving skills; caution, courtesy and common sense.
School Safety
- When picking up and dropping off your children we ask that you wait outside at their designated door.
- If you are late picking up your student from their designated door, they will be brought to the office until your arrival.
- Do not use the parking lots as a drop off area.
