Administrative Message
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” Gail Devers
As we head into a new year, we would like to thank students, staff, and parents for contributing to the Cecil Swanson School Community. We are all so proud to be part of this amazing community. It is apparent that the work we have done to make this happen successfully has had a positive impact on all of our students. We are really looking forward to the fantastic work that is yet to come.
Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year begins Monday, January 15. Children must be at least five years old as of December 31 to start kindergarten in the fall of that kindergarten year. This means that a four-year old child may start kindergarten if they will turn five on or before December 31 of that school year. Please visit the CBE website on instructions on how to register your kindergarten student.

If you have friends or family that have children who are eligible for kindergarten, please remind them to register.
Report cards will be available to view on-line at the end of the month. You need to have a MyCBE account in order to view your child’s report card. If you don’t have a MyCBE account, please visit this website MyCBE to create your account.
Our next School Council is Wednesday, January 17 at 4:30pm. If you would like to attend this meeting, please come to the school Learning Commons for 4:30 pm.
Sincerely,
Mr. Adam Topp, Principal
Ms. Joan Murtagh, Assistant Principal
Kindergarten Registration 2024-2025 | Building Our Future
Registration begins Monday, January 15, 2024
What is Kindergarten?
Kindergarten addresses all dimensions of a child’s development. It builds upon what children have already learned in their home and community settings. In Kindergarten, children explore and experiment with their environment and learn how to interact with others. This helps them to value themselves as capable and competent learners. The program offers children opportunities to:
- Develop skills in language arts, science, mathematics, social studies and the fine arts
- Develop decision-making skills
- Enhance personal and social responsibility
- Communicate effectively
- Demonstrate their knowledge in different ways
Most programs are half-day, offered in either the morning or afternoon. Hours and days vary from school to school.
When does my child attend Kindergarten?
Children who are five years old on or before December 31, 2024 may register in Kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year.
How do I register my child for Kindergarten?
Registration for your child begins January 15, 2024.
Please follow the link https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/registration/Pages/default.aspx
You will also need to provide proof of your current address and your child’s birth certificate.
Traffic Safety
Parents continue to stop in the school bus zone in the front of the school. This is not allowed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parents also stop too close to the crosswalks. Vehicles must be 5m away. Thank you to those parents who have listened to reminders and now park elsewhere. It is critical that these traffic laws are followed for the safety of all our students gaining access to our building.
Some parents are also letting their children out of and into the car in the middle of the street. Student safety is the priority so please ensure your children go to the crosswalks before crossing the street. U-turns in a School Zone are also illegal. Thanks to all who are giving this extra time and attention to our student’s safety. Your individual efforts are important and appreciated.
Cold Weather Safety
In extremely cold weather (wind chill or temperatures on or around -20 C), we have BLUE DOT DAYS. On these days, we put a blue dot on the doors of the school. This means that all students should come into the school at 7:55 am through one of the main doors, when supervision starts.
It is essential that all students come to school warmly dressed with a hat or hood, mitts and boots with them every day during the winter. Children need to be prepared in case an emergency should arise. Even with a Chinook, the weather can change suddenly.
