"A little progress each day adds up to big results." Satya Nani
Everyday we are so proud and impressed with the resiliency and flexibility of your children. Our entire Cecil Swanson staff thanks all the parents and caregivers that support our incredible students.
March Parent-Teacher Conferences is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss his/her progress and achievement in relation to the learner outcomes from the Programs of Study. These Parent-Teacher Conferences are focused on evidence of individual student learning (examples of student work, student reflections, etc.). You must have a MyCBE account to book a conference. The MyCBE booking system will open up on March 13, 2024 at 9:00 am.
If your child comes home and says to you that they do not have any homework, would you please ask them to show you their agenda. Some of our students do complete their assignments at school and some students need some extra time to finish at home. Our teachers also send out a weekly email which outlines how you can help at home.
On behalf of Cecil Swanson staff, we want to thank you for your continued support in helping your child, “Be the Best You Can Be” and we look forward to seeing you at our next School Council Meeting, Wednesday, March 13 at 4:30 pm.
Sincerely,
Ms. Lucie Lejeune, Acting Principal
Ms. Joan Murtagh, Assistant Principal
Cold Weather
We will be faced with more cold weather in March and we are working hard to remind our students to dress properly for the weather. We are encouraging them to wear their coats, hats, mitts and boots. It is important that the students dress warmly, as they will be expected to be outside until the entry bells ring (8:05 am and 12:38 pm). We will post signs for a “Blue Dot Day” when the temperature is below approximately -20C (with the wind chill). On “Blue Dot Days” students may come into the school and wait in the entranceways until the bell rings. If it is necessary to close the schools because of weather, it will be announced through the local media.

Parking Concerns
For the safety of our children, please be courteous and consider the following when dropping off or picking up children from school.
- Avoid double parking
- Watch for signs indicating ‘No Stopping’ and ‘No Parking’ zones
- Leave FIVE (5) metres between your car and any crosswalk markings. This will ensure children are visible when they enter the crosswalk.
- School bus zones must be kept clear so children can step off the bus and onto a curb instead of exiting into a busy street.
- Parking too close to stop signs, yield signs or intersections makes it difficult to see children in the area and obstructs the view of other motorists. A distance of 5 metres is required.
- Blocking entrances to garages or driveways angers neighbours. Stay back at least 1.5 meters.
- No parking in either Staff Parking Lot.
Thank you to those parents for not stopping in the bus zone, not parking or stopping in the staff parking lots and for not stopping in the middle of the road to let your child out. Safety for all is important. We would also ask that you do not park facing the wrong way when dropping off and picking up students.
Safety Concerns
At Cecil Swanson School, we continue to work together to provide a safe and caring learning environment. Staff, students and parents all play an important role in this endeavour. The safety of our students is our first priority and we all share responsibility for ensuring children are safe when being dropped off or picked up from school.
When you drop your children off in the morning or if you pick them up after school, we ask you not to follow them into the school. We ask you to leave them at their designated outside door.
Please ensure your child brings his/her lunch with them in the morning. Should you, on a rare occasion, need to drop off lunch, homework, a knapsack, etc. please leave it at the main office with your child’s name labeled on it and we will be delighted to have it delivered to your child.
Scent Free
Cecil Swanson School is a scent free school. Please refrain from sending your student to school wearing any scented fragrances such as perfume and body spray.
