September News | School Hours, Lunch Program, Breakfast Club, Attendance, Illness, Medical, Staff

Welcome back to another excellent year at Cecil Swanson School. We are so happy to once again work with you and your children.

Important Dates

Sept. 22– Non-Instruction Day, No School For Students
Sept. 28 – Orange Shirt Day
Sept. 29 – National Truth and Reconciliation Day, No School

Please Note: Every Friday is an early dismissal day; students attend 8:10 a.m.- 12:10 p.m.

Please check your school calendar if your child is in kindergarten for their alternating Friday attendance.

Each week you will receive a weekly email from your homeroom teacher. These emails will cover what is happening in the class, ways to help at home and upcoming school events. If you do not receive an email on Friday, please contact your homeroom teacher or our school.

After school all children are to go home and check in with an adult before coming back to play in our school.  Only those students who are being supervised by an adult may stay and play.  Children are not to arrive at school before 7:55 am as there is no adult supervision available.  Both of these measures are to ensure your child’s safety. If your children go home for lunch, they should not return to play until 12:30 pm.  At that time, teachers and Lunch Supervisors are available to supervise them.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the office.

Sincerely,
Mr. Adam Topp, Principal

Lunch Program Information

Lunch Supervision registration for your Grade 1 – 6 child will be available online through your MyCBE Account once the cost is determined.  Waiver applications will be available online at that time as well. Welcome to all students who are new to the lunchroom and to those returning.

Students need to come to their lunchroom with appropriate clothing and footwear for our uncertain weather.  We are a nut aware school, due to severe allergies of some students.  Please do not send any nut products in your child’s lunch.  Please remember to include cutlery with your child’s lunch, we do not provide any.  Microwaves are no longer available at the school to heat up your child’s lunch.

Breakfast Club

We are happy to inform you that Breakfast Club will be running at Cecil Swanson School again this year. Our food is prepacked when we receive it to cut down on handling.

Breakfast Club times: Monday to Friday 7:40 am to 7:55 am. If you have any questions about the Breakfast Club, please feel free to contact the school office at 403-777-6690.

Attendance and Illness

Attendance is one of the keys to success in school.  We encourage students to be at school on time.  Please contact the office if your child is going to be absent or late.  Students should not be attending school if they are sick. Our phone number is 403-777-6690, press 1 for absent line. If you prefer you can email your student’s absence to CecilSwanson@cbe.ab.ca Please leave your child’s name, your name, grade, homeroom and teacher’s name. It is for the safety of your child.  We recognize that children do become ill, occasionally are late, or encounter a family emergency.  These situations will be handled with compassion and care.  However, teachers and administration will be diligent again this year in monitoring student attendance and will be contacting parents promptly when there are attendance concerns.

Medical Conditions and Medication

Parents are asked to notify the school if their child has a medical condition or problem.  It is important that we are aware of medical issues and the procedures to follow in case of an emergency situation. This information should be updated at the beginning of the school year and at any time throughout the year, if there are any changes.

Some children take medication during the school day. To protect the safety of all of our students and to ensure the security of the medications, all medicine must be stored at the school office with instructions for staff.  An authorization form, Student Health form must be completed and signed by the Principal before medication will be administered at school.  Please request a form from the office if needed.

Safety Concerns

Please be sure we have your current phone numbers on file, so that in the event of a health emergency with your child we can contact you. When dropping off or picking up your child, please do not park in either parking lot, they are for staff use only and they become too crowded.  This poses a risk for your child.
